For Business Owners
Many business owners reach out during periods of change, when questions around ownership, leadership, or long-term direction begin to surface. In these situations, introductions often take place around ownership transitions, succession planning, or long-term partnership considerations. The aim at this stage is simple: determining whether alignment exists to make an introduction worthwhile.
Chestnut Partners is an independent deal origination platform. Our role is limited to identifying aligned situations and facilitating introductions between business owners and capital partners.
Questions business owners often raise before deciding whether to begin a conversation.
-
An initial conversation is informal and typically lasts 30–45 minutes. It focuses on background context—how the business operates, the ownership structure, and what prompted the discussion.
-
Discussion generally centers on the history of the business, the owner’s priorities, and timing considerations. The purpose is to establish mutual understanding and determine whether an introduction would be useful.
-
Visibility is intentionally limited. Information is shared selectively and only with parties discussed in advance.
-
In some cases, the conversation ends there. In others, an introduction is made where there is clear mutual interest. Any subsequent dialogue takes place directly between the parties.
-
That is common. Many conversations take place well before any direction is chosen and remain focused on understanding context rather than defining outcomes.
-
Situations where owners value alignment, discretion, and a measured approach tend to be the best fit. This often includes ownership transitions, succession planning, or long-term partnerships developed outside of broadly marketed processes.
-
Expectations are established individually. Some conversations remain limited in scope, while others lead to an introduction if alignment is clear.
